Yesterday, 22 March 2017, was World Water Day, and to observe this important date and to further promote water-saving efforts during National Water Week 2017, we asked the Green Times, Responsible Tourism Cape Town and the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning to help us gather water-saving ideas from our respective Twitter audiences. The #SaveWater Twitterchat was a fun, hour-long, focused effort to really think about all the ways we - as individuals and businesses - can help preserve this precious resource, water.
Anytime you need more inspiration, just have a look at the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning's fantastic H2O Hero website - full of tips for the home and office.
Loads of people and companies made their voices heard, including For Love of Water (Flow), whose friendship with us goes back more than seven years, when they first launched their project right here at the Aquarium in 2010. Flow is an initiative connecting citizens, organisations, government departments, corporates, media, educators and others through a shared commitment to instill a deeper appreciation, understanding and respect for water. They chose yesterday, World Water Day, to relaunch their important efforts.
Check out Flow's exciting Genius of Space project, in partnership with Biomimicry SA and the Western Cape 110% Green Initiative, which is a brand new water treatment and waste upcycling project for the Langrug informal settlement.
Below you can read some of the great water-saving ideas and examples that emerged from yesterday's Twitterchat. How many of these have you implemented in your home or office?
