Two Oceans Aquarium sleepovers are exclusive to our members. One of the highlights of the calendar, these unforgettable nights afford our members the unique privilege of experiencing the Aquarium after dark, and sleeping with the fishes ... and the turtles ... and the penguins. Our sleepovers are also fun-filled, with themed arts 'n crafts activities and a child-friendly movie projected on a big screen. At the next members' family sleepover, we're celebrating literacy with the latest in our Puppet Stories book series.
My Wild Pets
Members have the opportunity to be among the first to see the new My Wild Pets puppet show, and its accompanying children's book, at our sleepover on 1 April.
The much loved characters Beauty and Geo are going on a new adventure, where they learn about the differences between pets and wild animals; and how to love, respect and care for all animals. We also meet a sea star who becomes an ocean ambassador when she journeys from the ocean to the Aquarium. My Wild Pets is the fourth children's book written and illustrated by Marguerite Venter, who also runs our Puppet Stories in-house travelling puppet show offering, a part of the work done by the Environmental Education Centre.
The new My Wild Pets children's book will be on sale at a special one-night-only launch price of R40 per book, exclusive to members. The regular retail price will be R45 and the book (as well as the three other titles in the series) are available at the Aquarium or online in both English and Afrikaans.
At the sleepover's arts ‘n crafts session, kids will decorate their own book bag to take home with them the next day.
Then, we'll all settle down to enjoy delicious treats while watching a movie on our big screen TV. When tired yawns start to make their appearance, crawl into your sleeping bag and drift off to dreamland while Yoshi, Bob and all the other amazing animals in the I&J Ocean Exhibit keep a watchful eye. Dream of a magical underwater wonderland and when the sunlight starts to trickle through the water, rise and shine to meet the new day ... A yummy "breakfast in a box" will be brought for you to enjoy in bed while watching the fish.
