We are half-way through the year again and soon all schools are closing their doors once more for that long-awaited winter holiday. The Two Oceans Aquarium’s Education Centre will not be closing, however, as we are a hive of activity during the winter holiday season. We will be running a programme for both matric students and children from Grades five to seven.
Grade 12 Winter School
Our matric workshop is aimed at any matriculants trying to understand biology better, wanting to improve their results or benefit from the hands-on group activities our workshops offer.
Amongst others, topics covered include cell division, nucleic acids, genetics and evolution. Xavier Zylstra and Bianca Engel, our two teachers who are part of the workshop, will also supply and discuss revision questions with the participants. Junior Biologist Course: For Grades 5 to 7
Another programme running these winter holidays is the Junior Biologist Winter Course. With several of these programmes running throughout the year, it has fast become a favourite amongst primary school children. Khonzani Lembeni, our teacher in charge of this programme, has come up with a winning recipe to keep children actively involved throughout, without making it feel like they are back in school.
From sustainable seafood to marine birds, this course is designed to keep them occupied and learning at the same time, all the while putting parents’ mind at ease, knowing that their child is in a safe environment.
