In March, we are giving you a chance to win an amazing Penguin Encounter worth R350 – an interactive meeting with our adorable rockhopper penguins who, senior bird trainer Hayley McLellan tells us, have returned to their pool after a brief moulting period.
This competition is now closed
To enter, you’ll be asked to take part in a quiz (at the bottom of this page) about the rockies’ relative, the African penguin. Answers to these multiple-choice questions can be found on our website or elsewhere on the internet.
Next month, Two Oceans Aquarium Senior Bird Trainer Hayley McLellan and her posse of intrepid bird-lovers – which include animal-keepers and conservationists – will once again take off on the Waddle for the Week, a 130km walk from Gansbaai to Simonstown. Why? For the love of the African penguin.
The African penguin – the only species of penguin that breeds on the African continent – is facing the possibility of extinction. These flightless birds have been on the endangered list since May 2010, but now their numbers are at an all-time low.

Now that you know a little more about the African penguin, you may like to tackle the quiz at the bottom of this blog post. Good luck!
