Touch Pool
There’s nothing more exciting for a child than to reach out and touch something, whether it’s a toy, a sweetie or, at the Two Oceans Aquarium, some deliciously slippery seaweed or knobbly starfish at the Touch Pool. Our staff and volunteers are always on hand to offer a memorable experience for kids and the snippets of ocean information will ensure young and old kids learn something new about our marine life. Take a step closer and let your curiosity take over at the Touch Pool.
Hi-Tec Microscope
The Hi-Tec Microscope Exhibit also allows our little sea-lovers to discover a new world by magnifying the hidden wonders of nature that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Expect to witness creatures such as sea cucumbers, goose barnacles and cushion stars go about their daily activities, including feeding, breathing and possibly even giving birth.
Penguin Encounter
If your children want to get up close and personal to larger creatures and simply adore penguins, why not give them the opportunity to experience a Penguin Encounter?
Along with our bird trainer, they will be able to meet our lovable rockhopper penguins, Roxy, Hopper and Bubbles. Only two people at a time are allowed to meet our feathered friends, which allows for some serious quality and learning time. Give your child an unforgettable, fun and informative experience.
The Penguin Encounters take place from Tuesdays to Sundays at 11h00 in the AfriSam Penguin Pool, and are suitable for all ages, although we discourage children under eight from taking part.
Penguin Encounter prices:
- Adults – R350
- Children between eight and 17 – R300
- A Penguin Encounter lasts about 30 minutes – although the entire process from welcoming to saying goodbye will last up to 90 minutes.
- R100 of the cost of an Encounter is donated to an Aquarium penguin fund, which will be put towards a charitable cause at the end of the year.
- Bookings must be made at least one day in advance and are subject to availability.
- Members pay 20% less.
I&J Predator Exhibit
For an encounter of the predatory kind, you and your little ones can visit the I&J Predator Exhibit to watch the ragged-tooth sharks feeding, which takes place daily at 15h00. We have a number of other feeds that take place in the Ocean Basket Kelp Forest Exhibit and Sappi River Meander exhibits, as well as the AfriSam Children’s Centre. For more details, visit our Feeding Times page.
AfriSam Children’s Centre
And when the little ones just want to play a little and interact with other like-minded individuals, they can enjoy everything the AfriSam Children’s Centre has to offer, including puppet shows featuring shark, octopus, penguin, eel, turtle and sunfish hand puppets, a ball pen, an area to create fishy artworks from recycled materials and a tuck shop.
Shoreline Café
And if their little tummies are grumbling and they need to refuel their bodies with a tasty meal, Shoreline Café has you covered with an extensive kiddies menu, including sandwiches, pastas, quiches, steaks, burgers and, of course, delicious seafood.
With so much to offer, your weekend will be filled with fun, laughter, entertainment, education and most of all, excitement, at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
