We take time to reflect as the IAC draws to a close

As the IAC draws to a close, we’re happy to report that the event has been a great success. With lots learnt and inspirational people networked, it’s time for us to reflect on the week’s events.

The big news on everyone’s lips is the Aquarium’s formal partnership with Institut Océanographique in Monaco. The five-year agreement was signed on Wednesday, 12 September, at the Cape Town ICC by Dr Patrick Garratt, managing director of the Aquarium, and Mr Robert Calcagno, chief executive officer of the Institut Océanographique.

The partnership will focus on research, conservation, animal husbandry, personnel training, education and awareness. How thrilling to be working with such a prestigious organisation.

12 September also saw some of the world’s brightest gather for the final café conversation, an opportunity to exchange ideas, problems and solutions themed around collection sustainability, as well as a business management session.

Overall, I think those in attendance would agree that this year’s IAC has been an enriching and stimulating experience. Now, it’s up to all of us to take what we can from the information imparted and discussed, and resolve to make a difference in whichever ways we can.
