For the 10th time, the Mother City will host this premier ocean race, which started in Alicante in Spain on October 11 and ends in Gothenburg in Sweden in June 2015.

The planned activities are not just for those interested in yachting – family-oriented activities include the “40 Knots” experience, where you will be taken on a speedboat to experience how fast the sailors go! The Volvo Dome will be playing a “Day in the life of a sailor” video, and there will also be a Volvo Park Assist demo.

The Open Ocean Sports Festival, situated in the area between jetties one and two and Quay Six, will take place during this time. You will be able to watch teams battle it out in dragon-boat racing, extreme water polo and surf-ski.

The outdoor amphitheatre will also play host to the Open Ocean Film Festival.

The V&A Waterfront will once again host the racing fleet – it’s the perfect venue for shore crews to prepare the boats for the next leg of the race and for sponsors and guests to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Cape Town. There is a full schedule of sailing planned before the boats head out again for leg two of the race (Cape Town to Abu Dhabi), including the important in-port and pro-am racing.

“The Volvo Ocean Race presents an opportunity to showcase the V&A Waterfront and Cape Town on the international stage,” says David Green, CEO of the V&A Waterfront. “This stopover will see great events and activations that will bring an added level of activity to this 150-year-old harbour.”
