Wasabi’s last days in Cape Town

Two Oceans Aquarium

Our green sea turtle Wasabi’s departure has made quite an impact – not only on our regular visitors who are dismayed to see her go, but also on Durban’s folks, who are very pleased about the new addition at uShaka Marine World. Wasabi even made headline news!

We spotted this Cape Argus billboard last week, and so did nine-year-old Hannah, a young Aquarium fan and daughter of the Aquarium’s Head of Education Russell Stevens. Hannah emailed us to share her story:

This is Hannah writing. My dad and I went to the KWIKSPAR. I saw the article of Wasabi and my dad bought it for me.

On one weekend when my dad was on duty I gave a talk about turtles and I showed the people Wasabi.

I liked Wasabi because she is the only one I feel comfortable feeding and stroking [her] back. I hope I will some day be able to see her again in uShaka.

    Lots of regards, Hannah.

We’re missing Wasabi already, but the warm Durban waters should ease her painful arthritis. It certainly has been cold lately!
