Here in Cape Town we love our oceans – and we’re lucky enough to be exposed to the unique biodiversity that occurs from the meeting of Indian and Atlantic waters off our coastline. It’s also vitally important that we protect our oceans and encourage a sustainable way of life.
Show your support for Cape Town and a sustainable future powered by renewable energy by voting in WWF’s “We Love Cities” campaign. Fourteen participating countries around the world have cities in the running to be crowned the most loveable, sustainable city, a title that the winner will hold from Earth Hour 2014 (happening on 29 March) until Earth Hour 2015.
To vote for Cape Town, visit welovecities.org/capetown, or use the hashtag #welovecapetown on Twitter or Instagram as many times as you like. The country with the most votes plus hashtags wins.
Why you should vote
The City of Cape Town has a Climate Change Action Plan, and also supports the Aquarium’s educational programmes. But it is also citizens and the private sector that are increasingly working together with the government to ensure that we are growing sustainably as a city.
Here at the Aquarium, we have a number of sustainable projects we are proud of, like the recently installed hydro turbine, and our solar-powered outreach vehicle. Check out our sustainability page to read more about our greening efforts, or visit our Going Green page to see how you can participate.
A vote for Cape Town will bring us another step closer to sharing these environmentally conscious, sustainable business practices with the rest of the world; and it’s also a sign of support for sustainable cities.
