Last Friday, 5 November, concerned Capetonians took part in an anti-whaling demonstration at the Japanese Consulate in Heerengracht Street. There was a great turnout, which included Freshlyground’s Zolani Mahola.
According to Eyewitness News, “Protestors, mostly wearing black to symbolise their mourning for ‘whale murder’, chanted anti-whaling slogans and used a war siren to draw attention. They formed a picket line on the side of the road where they notified passing motorists of their cause.”
The protest was organised by the South African arm of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Agency.
Zolani Mahola, of South African super-group Freshlyground, joined in the demonstration to raise awareness and support the cause. It’s good to know that local talent is aware of such important issues, and is helping increase awareness in others.
Below is a video of the day’s protest, produced by Substance Films.
