Upsets in final results of Weird, Wild and Wonderful sea-lections

Sea-Lection News Correspondent

The final vote count for the Two Ocean Aquarium’s Weird, Wild and Wonderful sea-lection is in and the results have surprised even the hardiest of candidates. The biggest upset came in the toppling of the powerhouse, Puff Daddy the pufferfish. Though previous public opinion polls showed that Puff Daddy was the firm favourite to win the “Wild” category, bullying and colluding rumours have cost him dearly. Green Goblin the poison dart frog managed a landslide victory in this category, followed closely by Rocky the scorpionfish.

Justice reigns supreme

Mr Puff was overheard saying that he did not know how this could possibly have happened. He believes that he should have won, but it seems that the public’s demand for justice, truth and transparency was what, in the end, pushed the Green Goblin to the front of the poll.

Rocky has, however, cried foul and has alluded to possibility of vote-rigging through Green Goblin’s Amazonian connections. Green Goblin declined to comment on these allegations, but did say: “It was a good sea-lection. The best frog won!”

Weirdest by far

Slimeball the hagfish managed to slime his way into the first place in the “Weird” category, while the original favourite, Big Mouth the sargassum fish, had to settle for second place, followed by Cliffhanger the rocksucker.

Wonderful father

Sugar Daddy the pipefish wiped the floor with the other contestants (sea fan and cleaner shrimp) and surfaced as the winner of the “Wonderful” category. “It is great to see fathers being recognised for their wonderful abilities,” Sugar Daddy gushed as he herded his little ones together.

Voters were enthralled by each participant’s unique features and all the contestants proved they were truly worthy candidates. One voter in particular managed to grab the attention of election officials. Carin Geldenhuys from Somerset West won a Big 5 safari for two adults and two children at Aquila Private Game Reserve worth R6 500 when her vote was randomly drawn from the more than 2 700 votes.

Even though this year’s voting is done and dusted, it does not mean that the candidates and potential candidates can sit back, relax and float with the current! The Aquarium is calling on visitors to come and meet the winners, the runners-up and the candidates that managed to not only impress, but also make this, the first sea-lection of its kind, a truly memorable one.

Plans for next year’s sea-lection are already under way and all this year’s winners will have to work at a tremendous pace to impress next year’s potential voters.
