The Two Oceans Aquarium’s new website, www.aquarium.co.za, was launched today, just in time for the 2010 Tourism Indaba – Africa’s biggest travel and tourism expo. The website has a fresh new look, with an emphasis on the best possible and unforgettable all-round experience at the Aquarium, a comprehensive species and exhibit guide, great tips for planning your trip and an in-depth look at the ins and outs of the Aquarium.
On the overhauled website, you will find:
- Information about feeding times and scuba diving at the Aquarium, how and where to host your corporate event or wedding, great birthday parties and sleepovers for little ones and value-for-money specials that run throughout the year.
- A brand new blog section that has been carefully categorised to include a range of topics including the species at the Aquarium, gorgeous photo essays and images from our Flickr group, as well as an extensive media release archive. We are building our social networking presence, and our new Flickr group already has more than 100 images. We’d love you to join and add your favourite photos of the Two Oceans Aquarium, if you haven’t already.
- A comprehensive list of things to do, things to see and frequently asked questions.
- Links to our Facebook profile, YouTube channel Flickr group on the home page.
- A detailed section on the Two Oceans Aquarium’s conservation & research work, from protecting the V&A Waterfront’s seals, to getting behind the microscope, and pioneering research in animal aquatic health; not to mention our ongoing work with sharks.
- An extensive A-Z species guide that currently holds 88 profiles of species on display at the Aquarium, brimming with accessible information and stunning images.
- A Solemate page dedicated to Aquarium members, their benefits and their exclusive events.
- A thorough calendar that shows feeding times, environmental awareness days and special events at the Aquarium.
- An education section with downloadable resources from the Aquarium’s Environmental Education Centre, booking forms for group outings, educational games and a list of programmes for adults, including volunteering at the Aquarium.
- You can also find out how you can support the Aquarium’s work, in big and small ways.
- Tour operators will love the pre-booking discounts and educationals offered at the Aquarium.
- Keep an eye on the page dedicated to the prestigious 8th International Aquarium Conference, which is being hosted by the Two Oceans Aquarium in 2012.
One of the programming “wows” includes the fact that the site’s background images and palette change to represent the Atlantic or the Indian Ocean, depending on the toggle of a button. These two oceans meet on the southern coast of South Africa. It’s the source of much national pride, and also the reason why South Africa boasts such impressive marine-life diversity.
We’d love to hear any feedback on the site – please drop us a comment!
