The Two Oceans Aquarium hosted a welcome event for the 8th International Aquarium Congress (IAC) on Sunday evening, attended by several delegates, aquarium staff and volunteers. It was fantastic to have so many great minds at one venue, with delegates coming from far and wide to discuss various topics relating to aquariums.
Aquarium Managing Director Dr Patrick Garratt, received a loud ovation as he took the stand in front of the I&J Predator Exhibit, with sharks and turtles swimming behind him in the background. “This is the first time the International Aquarium Congress has been held in the southern hemisphere,” he said proudly. “It’s great to have you all here.”
Delegates had a great time exploring the aquarium and getting local information from aquarium staff and volunteers. The entertaining and educational puppet show raised a few laughs, while characters such as Ayoba the penguin and Yoshi the turtle were also big hits.
Phil Jane, from Aquarium De Paris Cineaqua, said he was impressed with the variety on offer at the Two Oceans Aquarium. Hear more of his thoughts in the video interview below.
“My first impressions are that this is a pretty aquarium,” said Rob Jones, a marine veterinarian at the Melbourne Aquarium. See a short video clip of him below.
