The Two Oceans Aquarium is one of Cape Town’s top attractions for kids of all ages. Here, you and your small people will find peace and tranquility, no matter what the wintery weather is doing outside.
I have visited the Aquarium many times with my large family, and they (and I) never tire of it. On our last visit, we took along Baby Sam (nearly two and not very articulate yet) for the first time. He is a toddler of few words, with his vocabulary not normally extending beyond “Dog ... out!”, “No!” and “Up!” But by the time we left the Aquarium that afternoon, he could say “Penguin!”, “Shark!”, “Nemo” and “Fissssshhhhh!”, all in rapid succession. Weeks later, he is still fascinated with fiiiisssssh. Maybe he will be an ichthyologist or a marine biologist when he grows up, you never know. Or one of those funky divers who cleans the windows from the inside, while keeping a close eye on the ragged-tooth sharks.
My other kids loved it, too. Said Emily (14): “From the bright colours of the fishes to the warmness of the assistants, my Aquarium experience was magical. Thank you very much for letting me enjoy the magnificent sea life that you have on show, I really appreciate it.”
For Alice (6), the best part of the Aquarium was “finding Nemo” and touching the starfish (see pictures below).
Nicholas (11) said: “I saw so many things that I have never seen before. When I went to the touch and feel zone, I touched a starfish, coral, shells and much more. When I went to the frog centre, I saw so many frogs. Then I went to the penguins and it felt like I was on the beach ... The Aquarium made my day the best day ever.”
