Sea turtles are the ultimate ocean wanderers, spending their entire lives at sea, shrouded in mystery. Brief encounters with humans either at sea, or on the beaches where they hatch, provide glimpses into their lives, personalities and habits.  For a special team at the Two Oceans Aquarium who work to save sea turtles that are found injured and stranded on our coast, these encounters often turn into unique opportunities to peek into the lives and behaviours of these animals.

Join the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation's turtle rehabilitation team for a special speakers's evening full of discovery at the Two Oceans Aquarium on 31 March 2022.

Alexandra Panagiotou - A Year of Environmental Enrichment with Bob: A Journey of Growth & Hope

Alexandra Panagiotou is the Sea Turtle Enrichment Specialist at Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation, and is currently pursuing her PhD at UCT on the effectiveness of environmental enrichment on sea turtle recovery. Enrichment is a process intended to stimulate animals to maintain their wild instincts, behaviours and curiosity, and Alex has been using these methods to rewild Bob, a green sea turtle previously believed to be unreleasable, but now a candidate for rewilding.

Master of Ceremonies: Brett Glasby

Brett is the coordinator of the Marine Wildlife Management Programme in the V&A Waterfront and while he's usually out saving entangled Cape fur seals, wayward sunfish, or dazzled seabirds, the turtle team don't hesitate to remind him that his work lacks a certain "reptilian" flair. Brett brings decades of conservation insight, anecdotes and humour to his role as MC.
