Application deadlines for three free marine sciences courses offered by the Two Oceans Aquarium Environmental Education Centre are looming.

If you know of any sea-keen Grade 7s, 9s or 12s, this is the information they'll need!

Smart Living Course: Grade 7

Proudly sponsored by the City of Cape Town, our Smart Living Course aims to educate young people about the four pillars of sustainability: biodiversity, waste, energy and water.

While this course is not strictly a marine themed course, the importance of understanding nature, its processes and how we affect them, is an important stepping stone towards any potential career in the sciences.

  • Application deadline: 19 May 2016
  • Course dates: 27 to 30 June 2016

For application forms, please email education@aquarium.co.za.

SeaFans Course: Grade 9

A free introductory course to oceanography and marine careers, this course is ideally suited for Grade 9s who have an interest in marine life and science and who are considering this as a career path. This is especially important for Grade 9s, as this is the grade in which final subject choices are made.

The course runs over five days, covering various physical aspects of the oceans, with a few animal examples added to the mix. We ensure that the course is as hands-on as possible, with various activities and outings included.

To apply, you will need to provide a letter of motivation as well as a supporting letter from a teacher or your principal. Click here for more information.

  • Application deadline: 3 June 2016
  • Course dates: 11 to 15 July 2016

Matric Life Science Revision Workshop: Grade 12

We conduct a full overview of all the work covered during the Matric year, spending more time on difficult concepts, and providing as much time as possible for questions from the floor. Each day will start with time for questions about work covered in the previous day. Towards the end of the week we will focus on curriculum documents, previous exams and sample exam questions.

Pupils will leave the course with notes on all the work covered (essentially, a study guide for the year), the curriculum document and several past exam papers. We will be encouraging participants to start self-study groups at school and may be able to offer support and follow-up sessions for the group leaders.

We would like to target motivated pupils who are performing reasonably well, but have the desire/potential to do even better.

Please email education@aquarium.co.za for application forms.
