The latest news on our expansion project

Renée Leeuwner – Assistant Communications & Sustainability Manager at Two Oceans Aquairum

Last month saw the arrival and installation of the windows in the new exhibit. Since then, the building has taken shape quite quickly and if you drive or walk past now, there is a bona fide building where there once was a parking lot. You will also see that the yellow crane that has been stationed at the corner of the construction site during the past months is no longer there.

The transformation has been remarkable – early October ...
and mid-November!
Yellow cranes seem to stick together! One yellow crane, removing another

On the roof of the building, things are also taking shape. The roof area will house an aquarist room, and a dive training pool and centre.

Life-support systems for the new exhibit are being installed and tested
The dive training pool has a window into the main pool

The exhibit is being kept under cover
The exhibit has been filled with water to test for leaks, etc. and we have experienced some unforeseen problems

As we want to make sure that the tank is the best it can be, both from a public perspective and an animal perspective, we have decided not to rush things for the sake of getting the exhibit open. The new exhibit will therefore open in early 2015.

The Aquarium remains open and operational during the construction of our new exhibit. Please visit us every day between 09h30 and 18h00 (and longer during extended hours). Pedestrian access remains unhindered.
