Hard-hitting seafood documentary The End of the Line premieres this Friday, 22 October, at select Nu Metro and Ster Kinekor cinemas nationwide. This is the first major feature film about the impact of overfishing on our oceans.
The documentary, narrated by Ted Danson, aims to raise public awareness about threatened fish stocks and stimulate political will and consumer action to secure a sustainable fishing industry.
It might incite some anger and sadness, but it is definitely not all doom and gloom. The End of the Line points to key drivers of significant change: networks of marine protected areas, responsible fishing and, ultimately, wiser seafood choices by consumers.
The film will run for a limited period only in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria. For more information on participating cinemas, visit the official website.
In the meantime, read more about the Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) and what you can do to preserve the ocean’s resources. It’s all about making informed decisions, so download SASSI’s seafood pocket guide for a colour-coded catalogue of good and bad consumer choices.
