An astonishing 80% of Cape Town’s children have never seen the ocean, despite living so nearby. This Mandela Day, you can help us create a sustainable ocean legacy by educating a child with the Two Oceans Aquarium.
Giving the gift of education
These donations are part of the Two Oceans Aquarium Adopt-a-School programme. We offer a specially tailored hands-on learning experience for disadvantaged children: they come to take part in classroom-based lessons on a variety of environmental conservation themes, and tour the Aquarium to discover the ocean’s fauna and flora first hand.
In order to protect our rich ocean legacy and ensure its biodiversity for future generations, it is critical that our marine resources are increasingly managed in a sustainable manner. And a vital component of sustainable management is environmental education. If children are to play an active role as adults in ensuring the sustainability of our natural resources, we must instil in them an appreciation of our marine resources today.
The Aquarium has already established itself as a key player in raising environmental awareness through its high-quality exhibits and conservation and education programmes through the Environmental Education Centre. We pride ourselves on providing our children with positive environmental experiences that open their minds to the oceans and the life that they support. Boasting classrooms fitted with terrariums and aquariums, we are uniquely positioned to make environmental education both stimulating and relevant.

We have decided to make this option available online in order to give the public an easy and affordable way to help us give back to the community of Cape Town. You can sponsor a child’s visit, at R67 per visit, here – there is no limit to how many visits you can sponsor.
We will be publishing a list of sponsors from Monday 18 July 2011 – should you give us permission to publish your name, you will be able to see it, along with the other sponsors, on our website.
