Pushing penguins: Play nice!

Ingrid Sinclair

We just love this short video clip of one African penguin pushing another into the water at the Sappi River Meander. Play nice, boys and girls …

On 8 October, it’s African Penguin Awareness Day, which calls attention to the plight of our beautiful endemic, but endangered, sea bird.

Teachers!

The Two Oceans Aquarium Environmental Education Centre is offering school groups visiting our Discovery Centres a unique opportunity to meet an African penguin.

Zuki and Ayoba are the Aquarium’s two African penguin ambassadors. They are tasked with creating awareness about the plight of these special and endemic seabirds.

Until the end of October, your group can experience an extraordinary visit from either Zuki or Ayoba while in the Discovery Centre. Penguin visits are available exclusively on Tuesdays and Thursdays – during the 09h00 and 10h45 lessons. This offer is available until 31 October.

Please contact Carrin on +27 (0)21 418 3823 or schools@aquarium.co.za to book your lesson and a penguin visit.

Remember the Waddle?

Remember the Penguin Promises: Waddle for a Week campaign that some of our staff members took part in May? You can catch up on this fantastic week-long walk by clicking here.

The Two Oceans Aquarium’s commitment to Ayoba, Zuki and all their family members runs deep. And, just watching these playful tykes, it’s hard not to share this concern.
