The majestic eagle ray soars through the water with a graceful ease – thanks not only to its impressive wings, but because it is also loaded with self-defence mechanisms to protect it from predators. Rays use camouflage and toxic spines or electric shocks to defend themselves against predators.
Eagle rays are also excellent swimmers, and have been known to breach the water up to several metres! However, at the Two Oceans Aquarium, you’ll see our eagle rays peacefully gliding along near the bottom of the I&J Predator Exhibit.
