Pic of the day: Sleeping clownfish

Anemones aren’t the most popular species in the ocean. In fact, most sea creatures avoid them, primarily because of the stinging cells in their tentacles.

However, Western clownfish live in a symbiotic partnership with anemones. Thanks to a protective mucus that coats clownfish, they are able to swim freely through the anemone tentacles and even have a lie-in on one of them, too, as is the case in today’s pic of the day.

You can find the Western clownfish at the Two Oceans Aquarium in the Oceans of Contrast: Indian Ocean Gallery exhibit.
