Pic of the day: Geometric Eel

One of the first faces that greets you when entering the Two Oceans Aquarium is this one – belonging to a geometric eel (Gymnothorax griseus).

The beautifully symmetrical dots along its body are its pores, which help it to detect vibrations in the water and changes to pressure.

Geometric eels usually tend to hide out in the crevices of rocks, but ours has happily taken to the task of welcoming new visitors to the Aquarium!
