Happy birthday to us!

Renée Leeuwner – Assistant Communications & Sustainability Manager at Two Oceans Aquairum

Today is our 18th birthday and wow, have things changed! Just have a look at these images.

Once it was but a construction site. Today, it is a destination!

Then and now

We’ve really grown!

The Ocean Basket Kelp Forest Exhibit – then and now

It sure is grand

The Two Oceans Aquarium would like to thank everyone who has made the past 18 years such an incredible experience. The support of our owners, our partners, our staff and volunteers, our members, and every single visitor who has walked through our doors has enabled the Aquarium to grow from strength to strength, and to strive towards its vision of fostering a love and respect for, and an understanding of, our oceans in order to inspire support for their future well-being

Here’s to the next 18 years – watch this space as the Aquarium enters the next phase of its dynamic life!

Some message from staff who’ve had a long, long history with the Aquarium:

Taken from my favourite movie: Patrick Swayze had the time of his life in the movie “Dirty Dancing”. I am still having the time of my life, 18 wonderful years later. Thank you, Two Oceans Aquarium – Jacinta Subjee

It has been quite a journey over the last 18 years. As Lex Fernhead (our previous MD) advised me to do, I’ve learned to sleep faster. Congratulations Two Oceans and here’s to the next 18 years! – Vincent Calder

The first time I walked into the Two Oceans Aquarium, I walked on to a building site and I was in heaven! Eighteen years later, I’ve gone from volunteering to working at the place I love. Thank you Two Oceans for giving me the opportunity to live my dream. – Renée Leeuwner

Remember fondly saying fairly often: “We can’t do it, but we will!” Eighteen years later, and the Aquarium is about to take the leap into its adulthood with fantastic new development plans, and I am so fortunate to be part of it again. – Maryke Musson
