From the Two Oceans Aquarium Flickr Group: Devil firefish – the winged soldier

Two Oceans Aquarium

The devil firefish’s binomial name – Pterois miles – means “winged solder” in English. Appropriately so, because the fish uses its dorsal spines, which are poisonous, as a defence tool. You can see devil firefish at the Oceans of Contrast: Indian Ocean Gallery. Photo courtesy ShaunSavage.

Been to the Aquarium lately? We’d love to see what you saw! If you have images that you’d like to share with us, join the Two Oceans Aquarium Flickr group and you could see your picture on our blog!
