The longnose hawkfish is found widely throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific, the Red Sea, along eastern Africa, to southern Japan, Nouméa to the eastern Pacific, the lower third of the Sea of Cortez, and northern Colombia to the Galapagos, according to Wikipedia.
At times one has to dive deep outer reef slopes and search about large sea fans and black coral stands to find it. However, you can easily see one right here at our Oceans of Contrast: Indian Ocean Gallery exhibit.
