Fishy Aquarium fun on Flickr

This image of a ragged-tooth shark was submitted by our first official group member, Day Is Coming

On May 8, to coincide with the launch of our new website, we started trawling photo-sharing website Flickr for the best in Two Oceans Aquarium photography. We then invited some of our favourite photographers to join our official Two Oceans Aquarium Flickr group – and in just nine days our membership has grown from two members, to 37! Our stream now holds 157 beautiful photographs.

Naturally we want to grow this number so we can build up a world-class collection of images and so we can see what you see, so if you haven’t joined Flickr yet and you have a few pictures of the Aquarium that you want to share, do so now. We check in on the group every day, so we’ll definitely see your submission.

Even if you don’t have any pictures or you haven’t been to the Aquarium yet, go and take a look at what others have experienced here. Feel free to encourage the photographers with your feedback.

You can take photos for non-commercial purposes at the Aquarium. It is best to use a high ISO, or film speed (400 or above) and avoid using flash where possible. If you are using flash, please make sure that you angle your camera at 45° to the glass.

Taking pictures at the Aquarium isn’t always easy because of the glass and acrylic walls, which can distort colours and light. But we’ve been wildly impressed by the pictures we’ve found so far and it’s always satisfying to get fresh new perspectives on our species and exhibits.

Congrats to EpicMemory, who – with six images – currently has the most photographs submitted to the group. Can you match, or beat her?

If you decide to join our group, you could see pictures you’ve taken on the front page of our website from time to time as part of our Flickr blog series. And keep an eye on the Flickr group for photo competitions, coming soon!
