Enjoy extended hours at the Aquarium this festive season

Stuart Buchanan

“Evening is the most beautiful time of day to visit the Aquarium”. That’s according to Dr Patrick Garratt – and he’s managing director of the Two Oceans Aquarium, so he should know!

Since many of us have day jobs, and busy weekends, finding a moment of relaxation among all that can be tough. Which is why we’re extending our opening hours at the Two Oceans Aquarium. From 16 December 2013 until 12 January 2014 we are open from 09h00 until 20h00.

“As human beings, we need to have contact with nature in its wildest, most pristine state,” says Helen Lockhart, Communications and Sustainability Manager at the Two Oceans Aquarium. “We long for the solitude that such isolation provides. We need restorative places in which we can have restorative experiences – places that permit us to transcend the stresses and strains of daily living and to find a sense of inner calm.”

Perhaps aquariums are such restorative places – oases in the mayhem of city life.

“The Ocean Basket Kelp Forest Exhibit at the Two Oceans Aquarium has this calming effect on visitors,” says Lockhart. “On many occasions I have experienced an almost tangible sense of awe emanating from onlookers. The tranquility of the display, coupled with its beauty and the swaying motion of the kelp fronds, transports people to a world far removed from the chaos of this one.”

By extending our hours, we hope to give more people the opportunity to experience the wonder of this exhibit, as well as all the others at the Two Oceans Aquarium. We hope to sea you here soon!
