Chris Bertish is a true inspiration in more ways than seven. An author, adventurer and environmentalist, Chris has been spreading the message of the need to protect our oceans as a Two Oceans Aquarium ambassador. Chris recently became the first person to ever stand-up paddle across the Atlantic Ocean unaided, a gruelling three-month journey that proved the impossible is possible.

Recently, Chris visited the Aquarium to talk about his tips for sustainable living, and how we can all play a role in creating positive change. Here are his seven sustainability tips:

Here's how you can follow Chris's tips:

  1. Organise or take part in a beach cleanup. Join us at Milnerton for the International Coastal Cleanup Day event on 16 September 2017.
  2. Plant a tree! Support a local initiative like Platbos or Greenpop - or plant a tree yourself!
  3. Reduce your use of single-use plastics. Rethink the Bag, stop using straws and find reusable alternatives.
  4. Choose sustainable seafood. Become familiar with the SASSI List by using their convenient app.
  5. Volunteer your time to help the ocean.
  6. Reduce your carbon footprint by using public transport, carpooling or cycling when possible.
  7. Donate to a conservation effort. As a business, consider supporting 1% For The Planet.
