Sure, it’s a job and yes, like any other it comes with the proverbial ups and downs. But not many people can walk away from their desks and automatically be transported into an underwater world of wonder, one that often leaves me inspired.
I have been fortunate to share in some amazing experiences while working at the aquarium, from unexpected encounters with the cutest of penguins happily waddling into the office, curious to see what’s going on; to coming to work in my pyjamas in support of charity; to hosting an event and working like crazy to transform the aquarium into something weird and wonderful, only to undo it all later and get everything ready for opening the following morning. I have countless wonderful memories of my day at the office.
“We are like a family” are words that you will often hear when speaking to my colleagues, and in our case I can honestly say that this is true. I have been blessed to be part of a team that challenges the ordinary, inspires change and, most importantly, nurtures the future wellbeing of our oceans.
I look forward to continuing this journey with this extended family of mine – always changing with the tides.
