In celebration of National Water Week, which takes place between 17 and 23 March, we will be promoting the message that South African tap water is safe to drink.
South Africa’s drinking water is reputedly among the best in the world, and we are one of very few countries where water can still be consumed directly from the tap.
So rather than rushing off to buy bottled water, which creates plastic litter and overloads landfill sites, fill a container from your tap at home and take it with you in your car, on a hike or while shopping.
To reinforce the message about the good quality of our local drinking water, the Shoreline Café will be setting up a table for the week to provide jugs of water and glasses for people to help themselves to a free drink.
We’ll also have “table talk” information on National Water Week at each table in the Shoreline Café, and special sticker arrows above every tap in the building to encourage everyone to drink tap water.
Look out for our inspirational water-related quotes on various exhibits, make use of our taps and do your bit to support the Department of Water Affairs’ campaign to save our most precious natural resource.
