Aquarium expansion has us all a-twitter

Renée Leeuwner – Assistant Communications & Sustainability Manager at Two Oceans Aquairum

We’re into the eighth month of construction of our new exhibit and the adjacent conferencing facilities.

For this update, I’ve hijacked Mike de Maine’s Twitter account. Mike is the Aquarium’s Technical Manager and the project manager for the development. Let’s see what he’s been tweeting about.

Tersia Greenstone is the aquarist who will be in charge of the new exhibit.

This gives an idea of the size of the main window, and shows a portion of the tunnel in the foreground.

Dr Pat (CEO of the Aquarium) visits the site and keeps a close eye on the construction.

The sand filters for the new exhibit have arrived and have been installed.

The pumps for the new exhibit have also arrived and been installed.

The preparations to waterproof the exhibit have started.

The exhibit has been covered in order for it to stay dry during the waterproofing process.

The boys getting on with the piping of the sand filters.

And here are two pictures that didn’t make it onto Twitter.

Our Technical department is getting on with building the life support systems for the new exhibit.

Remember that the Aquarium remains operational during construction, and remains open between 09h30 and 18h00 daily.
